Success on appeal of rural leader's son

One of the 16 children of ex-Regional Council chairman Cheung Yan-lung was acquitted of triad-related offences on appeal seven years ago.

Cheung Leung-sing, 46, was convicted of blackmail and assisting in the management of Sun Yee On in 1988 with his father-in-law, businessman Heung Wah-yim.

The pair were acquitted on appeal in 1989.

The younger Cheung was convicted in Canada in 1977 of conspiracy to import heroin, and was released on parole in 1982.

Another son of Mr Cheung, 74, film star Cheung Foo-sing, was killed in a car accident in 1983, aged 29.

Mr Cheung's legal wife is Angela Liu Fung-wo, 54. Dolly Chan Shuk-ching was treated as his second.
