BSES, Larsen & Toubro, ABG Heavy Industries, Great Eastern Shipping, Indian Oil Corp and Afcons are the main prospective bidders for the first privatised port in Maharashtra.

Global tenders have been invited for the Alewadi port at Tarapur and the documents for the bid were picked up by about 50 companies, including foreign firms.

The port is to be constructed through private investment on a build, operate, transfer basis. It will be able to handle more than three million tonnes of cargo a year.
