As a frequent flyer, I could hardly believe my eyes - South China Morning Post pictures concerning the smooth evacuation of a plane in Kai Tak on Sunday, treated us to the amazing sight of passengers clutching hand luggage. What on earth were these people thinking? Have they ever read the safety instructions? Taking luggage along during an evacuation clogs up the aisles and exits, increases the risk of people falling and slows everybody down when every second gained might save lives.

Sliding down the chute, you cannot control your luggage, so it might crash into other passengers and injure them. Or it might injure you.

Holding on to luggage with one arm you cannot control your slide. You will most likely bump into other people and injure them and possibly yourself. So first, you cause your own injuries and endanger fellow passengers.
