Officials jailed for corruption

Prosecutors are winding up several major corruption cases to set the stage for the sixth plenum of the Communist Party's Central Committee this autumn.

The latest issue of the Special Edition for Party Members reveals that Kang Yao , who headed the salary and welfare department of the Ministry of Personnel, was recently given a 10-year jail sentence for corruption as part of the two-year anti-corruption campaign.

The report said he accepted 100,000 yuan (HK$92,000) of bribes from a trading company in Harbin.

Earlier reports suggested that Tie Ying, a former vice-chairman of the Beijing People's Congress, now in detention, would also be sentenced soon.
