WORLD-Wide Shipping Managers Ltd is joining the Chamber of Shipping in London as an overseas member.

Other World-Wide affiliates are members of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) in Copenhagen, The Hongkong Shipowners Association, the Panama Maritime Policy Commission (New York) and the National Shipowners Association Tanker Committeein Singapore.

''We believe it is important to have an organisational link in London, still the world's premier maritime centre,'' said Helmut Sohmen, chairman of World-Wide Shipping.

''London is the headquarters of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the location of the largest insurance market, and houses a significant ship-broking community, apart from the many other professional services related to shipping.

''We also believe that the Chamber of Shipping, with its fine reputation, long record of service, and experienced administration, will be able to be of assistance to an organisation such as ours in addressing many of the policy issues and practical problems with which we and the industry at large are confronted today.'' Mr Sohmen said he was looking forward to working with the Chamber of Shipping, and to joining such important tasks as preserving the industry image.
