When 80-year-old Fan Ah-hoo left her 14th-floor home to take some exercise early on Saturday morning, she did not think it would be three days before she saw her family again.
Ms Fan spent 60 hours without food and water when the lift from her Tsui Yiu Court home, Lai King, broke down on Saturday morning.
All the while, residents kept using the other three lifts, unaware that Ms Fan was trapped until Monday evening when technicians opened the lift.
She shouted for help, pressed the alarm button and hit the lift door with her wooden stick but no one answered.
'I spent most of my time sitting or lying on the floor. I was fine apart from my back feeling painful because the floor was hard. And I was hungry and thirsty,' she said.
'I was worried about my family. I thought they would be anxious about my safety. I will not take a lift again on my own.' Her daughter-in-law, Lai Yuk, said: 'We thought she might have taken a wrong bus and gone to another district. We never thought she was so close.' The Housing Department is investigating why the building management failed to act sooner.
