Keeping an eye on upgraded KMB services

I refer to the letter headlined 'Long wait' (South China Morning Post, June 28).

Passenger demand on Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) route 235 (On Yam Estate-Tsuen Wan) has increased recently following the population intake at Shek Yam East Estate in early June.

KMB implemented the following measures to cope with the demand: Four additional trips are operated during morning peak hours; and two double-deck buses have replaced the two single deckers. We conducted a survey earlier this month outside Shek Yam Market to assess passenger demand.

We noted that while there were many passengers between 7am and 9am, the increased capacity was generally able to cope with the demand.

There were a few occasions when passengers were left behind.

Nevertheless, most of them boarded the next bus in six to eight minutes' time. We have asked KMB to replace the remaining single deckers with double-deck buses. The replacement programme will take place in stages. We will continue to monitor the level of service on route 235 and ask KMB to make further improvements if needed.
