The Tarim Basin in China's northwestern Xinjiang region is forecast to produce 3.2 million tonnes of oil this year, Xinhua (the New China News Agency) says.
It gave no comparative figure.
The region's annual crude output was forecast at eight million tonnes by 2000, it said. The current daily crude output is 9,000 tonnes.
