Training centres are not the place for sexually active boys to learn about the birds and the bees, a High Court judge said yesterday.

Mr Justice Patrick Chan told a boy, 16, who was sent to a juvenile training centre in April for having sex with his underage girlfriend and making her pregnant, that the facility was 'not the best place in the world to teach you about sex education.

'I think the magistrate simply did not like you having sex with your girlfriend. He thought you should be more responsible.' Mr Justice Chan yesterday released the boy and gave him a year's probation.

The boy was 15 when he began courting the girl, 14, in August last year. He came from a single parent family and the youngsters had sex regularly while his father worked.

Six months later, the girl discovered she was pregnant and told her family.

The boy admitted having sex with a girl under the age of 16 and was sent to a training centre on April 11 by magistrate Li Wai-chi.
