Star of honesty
I wish to commend the owner of a stall at the Star Ferry for his honesty and civic responsibility.
I am security manager at the Tai A Chau Centre for Vietnamese Migrants and I have many personnel working under my supervision at the centre.
Every morning we board the boat to Tai A Chau at the pier on Hong Kong island. Many of us like to buy cigarettes and newspapers at the Wingstech Co stall next to the turnstiles.
On at least three occasions some of my staff have left their wallets at the stall and each time the owner has returned them with money and documents intact when the owner went back to inquire if he had left it there. One wallet even contained $5,000.
Such honesty, particularly towards those of another race and culture, must be applauded.
