TVB trailing behind in taste

I write to express my disgust at the timing of trailer advertisements that TVB Pearl showed to promote two films in its evening slots, The Crow and RoboCop.

It is bad enough that these trailers are disgusting and depraved in their own right, but to show them at times when children may be watching is reprehensible.

In particular, the trailer for The Crow showed close-ups of body mutilations and a dead body with knives in its chest - the RoboCop trailer at least stuck to the usual fare of blood, bullets and banditry.

While I abhor the fact that in advertising these films, TVB has extracted the goriest and most repulsive moments, what has really incensed me is the timing of these trailers - one night it was shortly after 8pm, another time was from 7am onwards, when I was watching the Olympics.

In both cases my two young children were in the room and I had to jump up and stand in front of the television to block their view. It seems ironic that the so-called media self-censorship in Hong Kong extends only to the maintenance of a cosy relationship with Beijing and doesn't give a fig about the poisoning of the minds of the territory's children, our only real asset for the future.
