The Bangladesh Government has proposed to introduce import duty on ocean-going vessels having a capacity of more than 3,000 dwt.

In announcing the move in parliament, Finance Minister S.A. Kibria said he proposed to increase duty on the ocean-going vessels 'usually imported by the more fortunate and affluent businessmen of the society from zero per cent to 2.5 per cent'.
