FOR the past 14 years SANTA (Spare a New Toy Appeal) has collected new toys to distribute to thousands of underprivileged children throughout Hongkong in time for Christmas and this year was not different.

Over 11,000 children were supplied with new toys. Some receive a toy each while the larger toys are given to centres to use in their toy libraries or for group play.

This year we were given a wonderful variety of educational toys which are always favourites.

We have thanked as many people as possible for these toys, but there are so many who will always be anonymous to us, such as the generous person who placed $300 under the SANTA van windscreen wiper one evening, and these are the people that I hope to reach with this letter.

Our sincere gratitude to all of you for helping us to bring happiness to so many children this Christmas; without you we could not achieve any of this.

Thanks must also go to Hongkong Land for loaning us a large room in which to work and to their staff in the lifts and loading area who gave us so much help this year.

Toyota lent us a van, Hutchison and Hongkong Telephone supplied the phones, government stores lent the furniture, Pan Pacific donated the cartons and Yuen Cheong Shan printed 8,000 sheets of wrapping paper especially for us. All these kind gestures enable us to save money which can then be spent on toys.

Last but by no means least, we are indebted to the cheerful volunteer ''elves'' who gave up so much of their time to help collect, sort and pack the toys and to our hard-working reindeers who hauled in the larger collections.
