31 countries at HK tenpin tournament
Hong Kong is the second Asian country to host the FIQ World Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships, being held at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA) bowing centre.
Taking part in the tournament, in the boys' and girls' divisions, are under-23 players from the American, Asian and European zones.
The five-day tournament, the fourth FIQ World Championships, will end on Sunday.
A full team consisting of four boys and four girls are competing in singles, doubles, a four-person team event, an all-event, and a masters' event.
Thirty-one countries are taking part in the tourney.
They include Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Great Britain, Guam, Guatemala, Ireland, Japan, Korea and Macau.
Also bowling are Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Saipan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the United States and Venezuela.
The most popular boy and girl bowler will be selected by their fellow bowlers.
The opening ceremony was held at the SCAA bowling centre.
The guests included John Hung, chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Development Board, and Benjamin Tang, deputy secretary of culture and sport.
