Social workers free to choose

The Hong Kong Social Workers' Association will not nominate representatives for the Selection Committee.

But the association's board members decided at last night's special meeting not to prevent members joining the committee in their personal capacities.

It said it would help certify the memberships of those running for the Preparatory Committee.

On Wednesday, the Hong Kong Social Workers' General Union decided it would not nominate members.

About 20 health care professionals groups decided at a joint meeting last night they would nominate candidates.

Almost 3,500 nomination forms for the committee were handed out on the second day of the nomination period.
