Talks on 'delay' at airport

The Airport Authority is holding discussions with contractors to solve the problems over the construction of the airport passenger terminal amid fears of a delay, sources said yesterday.

An informed source admitted there was 'a little bit of delay', but did not elaborate.

'The Airport Authority and the contractors are now discussing the problem. The contractors have to find a way out. The Government is closely monitoring the situation,' the source said.

In a statement yesterday, the authority admitted 'some construction activities have been delayed'.

But it added: 'It is not anticipated these will have a serious impact on the project programme.' It was reported yesterday construction and design changes would cost 30 per cent more than the original budget and cause a delay of four to seven months.

But a spokesman said claims that the cost of the airport would rise by 30 per cent were not true.
