Members urged to stand

Linda Choy

The 110,000-strong Chinese Civil Servants' Association will recommend its core members seek seats on the Selection Committee.

The core group - including the union's 21 executive councillors, 181 annual general meeting representatives, and branch executive council members - numbers about 1,000.

But president Peter Wong Hyo believes not all of the group will want to take part in the race.

Those included in the Government's ban on participating will not be considered unless it is lifted.

At the union's extraordinary general meeting last night, it was also decided that members selected to the committee should try their best to uphold the political neutrality of the civil service and not to undermine the Government's effective ruling.
