New vessel for Asia

P & O Containers put its new vessel the Newport Bay - the third of four container ships built in Japan - into service last month on the Europe-Asia route.

The 292 metre vessel, which has a 4,038 20 ft equivalent units (TEUs) capacity, is one of the largest vessels in the P&O's fleet.

The first three containerships were built by IHI, Kure Shipyard.

, with the fourth being sub-contracted to Namura Shipyard and due for delivery in May.
