China chemical industry

China's chemical industry will strive for an annual growth rate of 9 per cent for the next five years.

Minister for Chemical Industry Gu Xiulian was quoted by Xinhua (the New China News Agency) as saying the country's chemical industry was among the fastest-growing in the world with annual growth of 9.8 per cent in the past five years.

Emphasis would be placed on the development of agricultural chemicals, petrochemicals, and new and high-technology projects from now to 2000, she said.

She named seven major development projects including chemical fertilisers, agricultural chemicals, petrochemicals, fine chemistry and chemical industry equipment.
