Strategic items in haul
Police firearms experts confirmed yesterday that 18 containers shipped from North Korea last month contained items which were classified as 'strategic commodities'.
Bomb disposal officer Dominic Brittain from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit said police would complete the assessment on the seizure today and submit a report to the Customs and Excise Department.
'Certain items are not strategic commodities and the others are,' he said.
Importing and exporting strategic commodities in Hong Kong requires a licence.
But the 18 containers bound for Syria were understood to be declared only as 'finished goods and tools'.
The owners of the forwarding agency and the shipping company have been arrested and released on bail.
