Eastern win first point

Struggling Eastern won their first point for the 1996-97 season when they held Happy Valley to a 1-1 draw in a poorly attended First Division encounter at Mongkok Stadium last night.

Cellar-dwellers Eastern were given an early boost when 19-year-old striker Brett Storey scored in the third minute.

Happy Valley mid-fielder Chau Chiu-hung scored the equaliser in the 35th minute to share the spoils.

The draw earned Eastern their first point after having lost all their previous three matches.

Happy Valley's season has also continued to go downhill after they showed early promise in the pre-season build-up. They have collected five points from four games, but it is not the kind of start they had hoped for.

The club, who have imported six Brazilian players to boost their ranks, have so far failed to make any impact on the season and could continue to struggle.
