Mick Kinane will ride for the first time this season at the all-weather meeting at Sha Tin on October 23 but he now has a second Melbourne Cup victory on his mind.

A final decision will be taken today as to whether Arc third placegetter Oscar Schindler runs in the November showdown. Both Kinane and trainer Kevin Prendergast are convinced the horse has what it takes to win Australasia's greatest race but owner John Lehane has not yet made a decision.

'He is well in at the weights when you consider they were framed before he won the Irish St Leger and ran third in the Arc. It's very reminiscent of Vintage Crop in 1993,' Kinane said. Prendergast said the horse could have run second at the Arc, and slated American Cash Asmussen's ride.

'The final decision to run or not has yet to be taken. Both Kevin and I are for going to Melbourne but ultimately it is up to the owner,' Kinane said.
