A change of venue may well have been the reason that as many as 11 records fell at the Ying Wa College annual swimming gala.

This year the gala had to be held at two separate pools. The first round of competitions were at Kowloon Tsai Swimming Pool and the final events were at the indoor swimming pool at Kowloon Park.

The advanced facilities of the indoor pool were a great help to the event, according to Pong Yiu-wing, who was in charge of the gala.

'The electronic scoreboard displays results quickly and keeps spectators well-informed about the progress of the competitions,' he said.

'The hi-tech time-keeping devices also save us a lot of manpower.' This year, Noble House won the overall championship.

Guest-of-honour Zhuang Yong, the first Chinese gold medal swimmer, who won at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, presented the prizes to the winners.

She also demonstrated different swimming styles.
