Windfall for post-handover government

The post-1997 government is now expected to inherit a kitty of more than $600 billion - thanks to record growth of 31 per cent in the Land Fund's net assets in the past financial year.

Its cut from the sale of land in the past 10 years has reached $111 billion, $17 billion of which was added last year.

Another $9.3 billion was earned by the Land Fund's investment portfolio.

Also to be handed over next year is the Exchange Fund, which stood at $485 billion in June.
