Curious about priorities
After reading the report headlined, 'Cancer-causing fumes at 'alarming' level' (South China Morning Post, October 26), one cannot help feeling vulnerable. The air is so heavily polluted here, but the Government is not doing enough to solve the problem. The number of cars, especially lorries and trucks, emitting noxious fumes is huge.
We often see police giving tickets to motorists for speeding or illegal parking, but how much effort is put into prosecuting selfish vehicle owners? Illegal parking doesn't kill but nitropyrene does. It will be interesting to know the figures for fines for parking offences and speeding as compared with excessive emissions in the past year.
