Ten years of correspondence education in China has played a role in promoting learning at all levels, an education official said.

During the past decade, China Education Television, the country's largest education-oriented station, broadcast more than 90,000 hours of programmes covering basic subjects, teacher training, higher education and farming techniques.

Ninety per cent of primary and middle school teachers have met qualification standards set by the State Education Commission compared with 62 per cent, 10 years ago.
