Standing Orders a sellout

The bilingual edition of the Legislative Council Standing Orders is a sellout following the controversy over President Andrew Wong Wang-fat supplying copies of the book to 27 provisional legislature members.

Unlike the 'mini-version' Chinese edition, which is available free of charge at the Legislative Council Secretariat, the bilingual version costs $78 per copy at the Government Publications Centre.

A spokesman for the centre said the bilingual publication was temporarily out of stock after all copies were snapped up at the weekend.

'Before the television row last week, many people did not know that there was such a book. We sent for 100 more copies from the storeroom on Tuesday,' he said.

More than 40 copies of the free mini-version edition were also grabbed at the Legco Secretariat's Public Information Division last week.

The spokesman said 70 copies of the mini-version were still available.

Last week, Mr Wong came under fire after he sent Chinese editions to provisional legislature members who had told him that they had not read the literature.
