Security tight for hearing

Security at the High Court was tightened yesterday when a man accused of shooting a police officer and kidnapping appeared.

Wheelchair-bound Yip Kai-foon, 35, is charged with shooting a police constable on May 13 last year in Kennedy Town and possessing two pistols, 34 rounds of ammunition and cartridges without a licence.

He is also accused in a separate case of kidnapping a man and his son on August 24, 1989.

Yip, represented by Clive Grossman QC, appeared in the pre-trial hearing which was adjourned to January 27. The trial is scheduled to begin on February 10. He appeared before Mr Justice Michael Stuart-Moore.
