Italians design 4 carriers
The Italian state-controlled shipbuilder Fincantieri says four refrigerated general cargo carriers, each with a capacity of 600,000 cubic feet, are in the final design stage at its Ancona shipyard.
The ships, worth 300 billion lire (about HK$1.4 billion), will be delivered to Italy's Orsero Group in 1999.
Fincantieri has the world's biggest order book for deep-sea ro-ro vessels.
Two vessels, each with a container capacity of 3,300 teus (20-foot equivalent units), have recently been delivered by the Ancona yard ahead of schedule and are now part of Geneva-based MSC's container carrier fleet.
