So, what do we have to look forward to in the next year of video games?   Among a rash of reported upcoming releases is Street Fighter 3, Final Fantasy 7, Samurai Showdown 4 and a 3D version of Street Fighter.

  The recent Japan Amusement Machinery Manufacturers' Association (Jamma) show in Japan has everyone blasted. Every producer had a mind-blowing game.

  Street Fighter EX, the game which spawned all fighting games, has become three-dimensional.

  It plays like the old SF games. Gamers will be happy to know that you can perform all the classic combos and never feel any disorientation.

  There are also three new characters to choose from, which should make the game more appealing.

  The most interesting thing is that the game was not created by Capcom.

   For the first time, Capcom has given a third party the task of creating an SF game.

  Capcom has finally decided to release the long-awaited Street Fighter 3. Street Fighter was released in 1991. Since then we have seen six different versions, not including that awful movie version.

  The bigger fighting area now scrolls upward at least another half screen.

  The animation quality has improved, so there is a smoother motion to the movements of the characters.

  Street Fighter 3 will be released in the arcades on the new CP System 3 Board. At present this is all the information that Capcom has released.

  Sega will also be releasing Virtua Fighter 3 (VF 3) this year. All I can say is it is as good as everyone makes it out to be.

    Konami, the creator of the Contra series, has four games planned. It will be releasing two racing games, called GTI Rally Cote d'Azur and Winding Heat. Both look exceptionally good.

  Konami will also be releasing the latest Gradius game called Solar Assault Gradius. Those familiar with the Gradius series will remember that these are awesome side-scrolling shooters.

  This latest version will have different perspectives, highly detailed graphics and death-defying manoeuvres. This may well be the greatest shooter.

  Konami has also decided to launch a fighting game, at present only called PF 573. This looks to be another Virtua Fighter. The game is said to be on a par with VF3. Scaling, magnification, zoom and lighting are totally cool.

  To round off, gamers can look forward to smashing fun and loads of down time at the arcade in the coming year. I'm already blowing my hard-earned cash on the new X-men vs Street Fighter game.
