Sketch on Chelsea irks Hillary

HILLARY Clinton is on the warpath over a Saturday Night Live skit that made fun on Chelsea.

A ''mean'' cheap shot was how she described the sketch, which compared her 13-year-old daughter's looks unfavourably with those of Vice-President Al Gore's girls.

''I think it's sad that people don't have anything better to do than be mean to a child,'' Mrs Clinton told Redbook magazine.

''My attitude is that I'm going to do everything I can to help Chelsea be strong enough not to let what other people say about her affect her,'' she said.

''In her particular situation it's obviously much bigger, but it happens to children all the time.'' While Mrs Clinton is angry over attacks on her daughter, she is more philosophical about criticism of herself. Past presidential spouses had put up with the same thing, she said.

''Almost without exception, every one was criticised for something by somebody.

''If you lived your life trying to make sure that nobody ever criticised you, you would probably never get out of bed - and then you'd be criticised for that.''
