$300m to art, sport

The territory could emerge as a new force in the arts world in the next millennium with the creation of a centre for creative writers, an artists' resource centre and a dance school.

The Arts Development Council foreshadowed the projects after the announcement of a $300 million award for sport and culture, to be shared with the Sports Development Board.

The Legislative Council's finance committee approved the grant, which the Broadcasting, Culture and Sport Branch will manage through the Sir David Trench Fund for Recreation.
