Unlucky duo are worth following
Don't give up on either Glory Of Pakistan or Applause For Me, both of whom were severely checked and blocked in last night's fifth event at Happy Valley.
Crown Commander won by two lengths, but the story might well have been different if either Glory Of Pakistan or Applause For Me had found racing room from the top of the straight.
Piere Strydom was sandwiched in between horses on Glory Of Pakistan and lost at least 21/2 lengths as his mount was squeezed out turning for home.
Strydom then had to steady before the gaps appeared and he was able to get to work on the hat-trick-seeking nine-year-old.
There was just too much ground to make up, but the veteran handicapper stuck admirably to his guns and made up considerable ground to finish fourth. The way he hit the line in this mile trip he may even stay 1,800 metres.
Mick Kinane couldn't find racing room for Applause For Me no matter where he went. Forget he even went round.
