CargoNet in hi-tech push

CargoNet is working with other multinational companies to bring small firms access to the benefits of technological advance, chief executive Ian Craig says.

The company, which specialises in the supply of electronic information services to the freight industry, was bringing low-cost technology to the market through partnerships with EDS and AT&T, Mr Craig said.

He said small and medium-sized enterprises were using CargoNet systems to exchange business information directly with trading partners. This could reduce their costs, improve accuracy and help cut their business cycles.

CargoNet's investment and partnerships gave customers access to support services such as finance and insurance, and track and trace information for ocean and air. On-line scheduling, brokering and customer support was also available.

So far, electronic data interchange had been too costly for all but the major multinationals, Mr Craig said.
