China will restrict the building of new ports and will merge or close those port facilities that see too little traffic or are poorly managed, the China Daily reported yesterday. China had enough ports, but they are often hampered by poor layouts and chaotic management, it quoted Vice-Premier Zou Jiahua as saying. New port approvals would be regulated, he said.
