Judge files complaint over roadblock dispute

District Court Judge Duncan Kilgour has filed a formal complaint against police after he and his wife were involved in a dispute with four officers at an early morning roadblock on the Peak.

Legal chiefs have begun an inquiry into the incident which occurred on Sunday morning.

Judge Kilgour, 53, is presiding over the problem-plagued Aaron Nattrass fraud trial.

The Complaints Against Police Office refused to comment on Judge Kilgour's submission which is understood to accuse the sergeant and three constables at the roadblock in Barker Road of 'inappropriate actions'.

Judge Kilgour appeared in court as usual yesterday and last night said: 'I really would prefer to say nothing but, yes, of course it was my wife in the car with me. I was not driving. There is a lot of pressure on me, I am in the middle of a case.' His wife, Prudence, 44, said: 'We have no comment to make to the paper.' Judiciary spokesman Belinda Hui said: 'The matter is under our investigation. The Judiciary will not comment.' Central police deputy district commander, Austin Kerrigan, said the couple had been stopped at a routine roadblock in an operation against illegal immigrant crime.

'They were stopped. The driver was asked to produce her driving licence and there was a delay - that's all I can say,' he said.
