Master of music in concert

The multi-faceted musical talent of Ng Ciu-shing will be showcased in a concert at the North District Town Hall Auditorium next Sunday.

As a composer, conductor, soloist and educator, Ng is a respected figure on the Chinese music scene.

Ng has poured much effort into promoting and popularising Chinese music as well as training young musicians. He was the founder of the New Tune Chinese Orchestra and the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra.

In the past nine years, he has travelled with various music groups and played more than 100 overseas performances in the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia and China.

In recent years he has devoted himself to composing and next Sunday's concert includes several original pieces. Ng will use three different musical instruments - the yangqin, pipa and zhongrun - to perform his own work which will include Rhyme of Yangqin and Erhu , A Peaceful Night , Colours in Xianjiang Smoke , Lamentation and The Conqueror Xinag Yu .

The concert begins at 7.30 pm. Tickets priced at $40 and $60 are available at Urbtix outlets.
