The territory's first international conference on Chinese calligraphy was held to mark the 40th anniversary of Chinese University of Hong Kong's Fine Arts Department.

Scholars from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, the US and Australia took part.

'It offered a golden opportunity for scholars to exchange their views . . . which is conducive to the future development of calligraphy,' said Professor Harold Mok Kar-leung of the department.

An exhibition, Chinese Calligraphy in Hong Kong - Gleanings from 100 Years, is at the university until May 25.
