YOUR correspondent, Salinias Sun, complained about late night hawkers in Chengtu Road, Aberdeen (South China Morning Post, February 6).

The Urban Services Department is equally concerned.

To combat the situation, the duty hours of the department's General Duty Teams in the Southern District have been extended to late at night since the end of December.

Hawking in the area is now under control and the number of illegal hawkers has, since then, been greatly reduced.

Your correspondent is welcome to contact the District's Senior Health Inspector (Hawker), Mr Pang Yuk-lun, at 554 7266, for further information. SHUM SAU-WANG District Hygiene Superintendent (Southern) for Director of Urban Services
