Swansong meeting for British JLG chief
Hugh Davies will lead his last round of Joint Liaison Group (JLG) talks at a plenum next week before leaving the post in the autumn.
The three-day session starting on Wednesday is the 40th since 1985 and will be the last plenum of the diplomatic body before July 1.
A source said the departure of Mr Davies, 54, was nothing to do with the handover. It was a natural expiry of the appointment.
Mr Davies, the JLG's senior British representative, was posted to succeed Tony Galsworthy in mid-1993.
Next week's meeting would discuss the operation of the JLG after July 1, the source said.
Under the Joint Declaration, the JLG will continue to work until 2000.
Its agenda may be revised after July 1 because some issues will be referred back to the Special Administrative Region government.
Although the JLG is to review its progress at next week's plenum, the source said the agenda of the plenary session was similar to previous plenums.
It includes details of the changeover ceremony, air services agreements, the handover of archives and assets, and localisation of laws.
