Hong Kong-bound David Harrison scored the first Classic success of his career when Single Empire won the Italian Derby in Rome on Sunday.

Harrison, who has visited Sha Tin in the past, will be in Hong Kong from the start of the new season in September on a three-month Club Jockey's contract.

Single Empire is trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam, who did not have the same luck at the Curragh where the Irish 2,000 Guineas went to the Aidan O'Brien-trained Desert King.

It was the 27-year-old O'Brien's second Guineas success in 24 hours, having taken the 1,000 Guineas with Classic Park.

Multiple Irish champion jockey Mick Kinane and South African star Douglas Whyte could be heading for a Royal Ascot showdown following the success of the Dermot Weld-trained Dance Design in the Tattersalls Gold Cup where he beat last year's Melbourne Cup favourite, Oscar Schindler.

Dance Design won last year's Irish Oaks and brought some much-needed cheer to the Weld yard, which has been ravaged by a virus.
