Six helicopters sold to Uruguay

Six helicopters of the RAF will make a farewell flypast over the harbour today before being sold to Uruguay.

In a rare event, all the aircraft of 28 (Army Co-operation) Squadron will fly in formation in a last tour of the territory, heading for the border before hovering above Central at about 3 pm and landing at Kai Tak.

The aircraft, all 33 and 34 years old, will then be handed over by British military chief Major-General Bryan Dutton to General Borucki of the Uruguayan Air Force which has bought them for an undisclosed sum.

The helicopters will be packed into containers for shipment to South America, ending 48 years of the squadron's history in Hong Kong.
