Golden boys help customers decide on glittering choices

Two salespeople from a jewellery company are set to prove they have a glittering future.


Vincent Lam and Ivan Fong have been chosen by their company, Just Gold, to enter the 29th Distinguished Salesperson Award.


The company, part of the Henry Jewellery group, nominated the two so that their efforts would be recognised.


Mr Lam, who is second supervisor at Just Gold boutique in Tsim Sha Tsui, consistently exceeded sales targets. He was on the Just Gold 'Top Gun' salesperson chart - a four-month motivational programme for sales staff - last year.


'With his smile and sincere attitude, Vincent can always capture the attention of customers and make them feel comfortable,' a company spokesman said.


'His friendly manner and outstanding service enable him to maintain a close and good relationship with all customers.' Mr Lam joined the firm in 1994 and believes that service means being 'true and honest' to customers.


'I can break the ice in an usually distancing transaction and make the customer feel at home.


'A thorough knowledge of the products and the market trend is also significant in providing advice to customers,' he said.


Mr Fong, branch manager of Just Gold at Mongkok, was given credit for his knowledge of each product's selling point and the convincing and organised way he presented it to customers.


'Customers are always impressed by his skilful presentation and his constructive suggestions,' a company spokesman said.


'He deals with people with immense patience and a friendly manner. He will listen carefully to their needs and, by observing their facial expressions and body language, he can suggest products to customers to satisfy them' Mr Fong, who joined Just Gold in 1992, said he wanted to become an assistant district manager in 18 months through further study in retail management.


'Honesty and sincerity have always been my maxims in serving customers,' he said.


'Being a professional salesperson, I believe that to be patient in listening to customers' needs and being objective in giving advice are crucial to ensuring their needs are satisfied.' Just Gold staff have been awarded the Outstanding Young Salesman Award and the Distinguished Salesman Award since 1994. The company was established in 1991 and aims to combine the traditional qualities of pure gold jewellery with fashionable features.
