Plenty to be happy about with young Boy

There were no outstanding time performances on the figures last week but there were a few promising efforts, not least Happy Boy's impressive success in the Griffin race last Wednesday night.

With the season drawing to a close, it is these races that should provide us with the best punting ammunition for the new campaign and there is surely no doubt that Happy Boy will make a healthy contribution to the coffers next season.

His winning time of one minute and 11.20 seconds equates to a Topspeed rating of 63. Okay, that level of speed figure is far from exceptional but it is a solid rating nonetheless.

Throw in the consummate ease of victory and we have the makings of a very smart performer indeed.

From the same race All My Love is another that looks set to provide us with a payday or two next season. He clocked an encouraging 45 time rating for finishing fourth last week and possesses plenty of scope for improvement.

On the same card Applause For Me was always travelling well and won the Class Four Pak Heung Handicap a shade more comfortably than the official winning margin suggests.

He already had relatively useful time ratings to his name and had shown a liking for an easy surface.

So, although confirming the solid nature of this form, a Topspeed rating of 52 tells us no more about this David Oughton-trained galloper than we already knew before the meeting.

It's a similar story for Acquisition, who basically ran to his best time figure of 35 to land the opening Class Five Tai Mei Tuk Handicap over his optimum trip of a mile.
