Book promotes equal work rights for gays

The Home Affairs Branch has published a colour comic book to promote equal opportunities for heterosexuals and gays.

A spokesman for the department said: 'The 24-page comic book, an elaboration of a leaflet - Equal Opportunities: Sexual Orientation - published earlier by the branch, stresses that all human beings are born equal with inherent rights that all should be free to enjoy.

'The booklet also reiterates the Government's commitment to the principle of equal opportunities for all and its determination to eliminate discrimination.

'It states that apart from their sexual orientation, bisexuals, lesbians and gays are the same as any other member of the community with respect to their needs and rights to work for a living, to be rewarded on merit in their work, to compete on equal terms for a place to live and to enjoy access to facilities on the same basis as other people,' the spokesman added.

The booklet, with Chinese script, features a company which gives equal opportunities to all.

The company's success is attributed to its policy of openness and meritocracy.

Its staff are rewarded only on the basis of their good work and irrespective of their sexual orientation, sex and race.

Free copies of the booklet will be distributed to homosexual groups, secondary schools, tertiary educational institutions, libraries, and employers' and community organisations.

They are also available at the Marketing Office of the Government Information Services, 17/F, Siu On Centre, 176-192 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, and all district offices.
