Catching wind of change

July 1 is bringing winds of change, and what better way to ride them than with a special commemorative kite? Where to buy: Yue Hua Chinese Products Emporium stores.

Description: A blue canvas kite with the smiling pink dolphin and Special Administrative Region logo.

Cost: $99, slightly more than the ever popular souvenir price featuring the magic figures, '97'.

Our verdict: The time-honoured Chinese craft of kite making appears not to have been valued with this mass-produced model. Rain prevented us from testing it, but judging from its small size and thin cord, flying in gales would not be wise.
