Oriental Press Group

Shares in publisher Oriental Press Group, which owns Oriental Daily News, jumped 16.98 per cent yesterday in a late-session surge that caught most of the market by surprise.

The counter rose 45 cents to end at $3.10 and was the day's leading blue-chip gainer.

The counter saw 17.04 million shares worth $49.54 million change hands.

Brokers linked the rise to speculation that the company was about to announce that a China-backed group would take a stake in the publisher. It was the counter's first close above the $3 level since mid-April.
