Record highs help fund

UNCLAIMED Mark Six prize money, plus cash raised by the auction of vehicle registration numbers, are expected to reach record highs of $48 million and $39 million respectively this financial year.

This compared with $39 million and $18 million in 1991-92.

Both provide revenue for the Lotteries Fund, which finances social services, and are expected to swell to about $53 million each next year.

Total Fund revenue for this financial year and the next will be almost double that of 1991-92 at around $330 million.

The increase is attributable to the rise in net proceeds from the Mark Six and interest payments.

The estimated balance of the Fund will stand at $2.4 billion by the end of next financial year. Expenditure for the coming year is about $584 million.
