Shanghai invested 4.81 billion yuan (about HK$4.46 billion) in public utilities projects last year, 37.9 per cent more than in the previous year, statistics show.
The money was spent on drinking water, gas supply, and public transit system.
About 90.8 per cent of urban households had access to gas supply by the end of last year, 4.2 per cent more than in 1995, Xinhua (the New China News Agency) reported.
