THE South China Morning Post is today pleased to publish Hong Kong Dateline as a part of a series of special sections marking the handover of sovereignty to China.

This is a compilation of articles which appeared every Monday during the past year.

It gathers the views of leading figures in business, politics and academia about the future of Hong Kong and hopefully acts as a snapshot of what was influencing the thoughts of decision makers during the run up to this historic event.

The guest writers were asked to address the question of the 'opportunities and challenges' facing Hong Kong after the handover.

The diversity of opinion and high standard of articles speaks volumes for the quality of debate which Hong Kong enjoys.

Forty four contributors chose to appear in this forum. It is greatly regretted that not all can be included in this publication due to space constraints and the desire to highlight specific issues.

The Post wishes to thank all contributors to the series. Special thanks to all colleagues, especially Gareth Jones and Ms Betty Tsui, who worked to make this a truly special project.
